The first edition of this award, named in honor of the famed compendium's venture into sociology that taught us that "family and social life also offer numerous other occasions to consume drinks for pleasure", goes to this claim from the paper "Constructing Meaning", published in Metaphor and Symbol 21(4): 245–266: "[A]dults often capitalize on contextually inappropriate but grammatically available alternative meanings for humorous intent". The assertion is backed up by no fewer than three references to earlier research.
